FaithCount
Effective date: 7 October 2026
Last updated: 25 October 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how FaithCount (“we”, “us”) processes information when you use the FaithCount iOS app (the “App”).
Contact: support@faithcounts.app · Website: https://faithcounts.app · Online version: https://faithcounts.app/privacy
1. Who we are
FaithCount is an anonymous worldwide poll about religious affiliation. There are no accounts and no sign-in. We do not try to identify you as a person.
FaithCount is the controller of personal data processed through the App. We use Supabase as a processor. The Supabase project for this App is hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
2. What we collect
We collect only what is needed to record one answer per device and to show aggregate results.
| Data | Required? | Source | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Religion | Yes | You choose it | Core poll |
| "Other" religion text | No | Optional text you type after choosing "Other" (max 60 characters) | Stored with your answer to understand which religions are missing; never shown publicly; the answer still counts as "Other" |
| Gender (Female, Male, Prefer not to say) | No | You may skip it | Optional context, never shown as individual results |
| Age range (18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45–54, 55+) | No | You may skip it | Optional context, never shown as individual results |
| Country | Yes | Your device's region setting, falling back to the App Store storefront (StoreKit Storefront.current). We do not request location permission or GPS. |
Store the country of the region/storefront with the answer |
| Device UUID | Yes (generated) | Random UUID created on first launch and stored in the Keychain | One answer per device after reinstall in most cases |
| Apple DeviceCheck token | When DeviceCheck is available | Generated by Apple on the device; verified on our server | Remember that this physical device has already answered, even if the Keychain is cleared |
| Timestamps | Yes | Server | Created/updated time of the answer |
| Push notification token, with country, app language, app version and environment | Only if you allow notifications | Issued by Apple (APNs) when you allow notifications; sent to our server | Send occasional notifications (for example about results), optionally targeted by country or language. Stored separately from your answer and not linked to your device UUID, religion, gender or age |
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, precise location, contacts, or photos. We do not include analytics SDKs, and there are no accounts or sign-in.
Map taps: when you tap a spot on the world map that is not covered by a drawn country outline (for example a small island), the App sends the tapped map coordinates to Apple's geocoding service to find out which country is there. These are coordinates of the spot you tapped on the map, not your own location, and they are not stored by us or linked to your answer.
Advertising data (see section 5) is processed by Google, not stored by us, and is never linked to your poll answer.
3. Special-category data (religion)
Religious or philosophical belief is special-category personal data under Article 9 of the GDPR. We process it only after you give explicit consent on the consent screen, and only to operate this anonymous poll and show aggregate worldwide counts.
You may withdraw your answer at any time in the App. Withdrawing deletes your stored answer and clears the DeviceCheck “has voted” bit when DeviceCheck is configured, so the same device may answer again later.
4. How we use the data
- Record, change, or withdraw your single anonymous answer.
- Enforce one answer per physical device (Keychain UUID + Apple DeviceCheck).
- Show aggregate counts and percentages by religion after you have answered. Public reads never include individual rows, device identifiers, gender, age, or country.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use the current dataset for advertising profiling.
5. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App shows full-screen Google AdMob interstitial ads: before the results screen, and the first time per session that you open the fullscreen map. Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC act as an independent controller for ad serving.
- Consent first (EEA, UK, Switzerland): before any ad is requested we show Google’s consent form (User Messaging Platform, IAB TCF). You can refuse personalised ads; Google may then show limited or non-personalised ads, or no ads.
- App Tracking Transparency: after that, iOS asks whether FaithCount may allow tracking. If you decline, your advertising identifier (IDFA) is not shared and ads are not personalised across apps.
- What Google processes: device and app information, IP address, coarse location derived from IP, advertising identifier (only if you allow tracking), ad interaction data (impressions, clicks), and diagnostics. See Google’s policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- What Google never receives from us: your religion, “Other” text, gender, age range, device UUID, or DeviceCheck token. Poll answers are never used for ads.
You can change your iOS tracking choice in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
6. Sharing
We share data only with:
- Supabase (processor, EU) — database and Edge Functions that store answers and serve aggregates.
- Google (AdMob) — independent controller for ads, as described in section 5. Google does not receive poll answers.
- Apple — Apple Push Notification service (APNs) delivers notifications if you allow them; it receives the push token and the notification text, never your poll answer.
- Apple — DeviceCheck verification only (the token is sent to Apple to read/update two per-device bits; Apple does not receive your religion, gender, age, or country from us).
- Apple — map geocoding: tapped map coordinates only, as described in section 2.
- Vercel — hosts our website https://faithcounts.app. The website uses no cookies, analytics, or third-party scripts; Vercel processes standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the site.
We may disclose information if required by law.
7. Retention
Your answer is kept until you withdraw it in the App, or until we delete it because the service is discontinued or we are required to delete it. DeviceCheck bits are cleared when you withdraw, when that service is configured.
Push tokens are kept while notifications are allowed. If you turn notifications off in iOS Settings, the App marks the token as disabled on our server the next time it opens; tokens Apple reports as invalid are disabled automatically. Disabled tokens are no longer used.
8. Security
Answers are written only through a server-side Edge Function. The public API cannot read individual rows or device identifiers. The device UUID is stored hashed on the server. Row Level Security is enabled on the answers table.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
9. International transfers
The production database runs in the EU (Supabase, Frankfurt, Germany). If a processor stores or accesses data outside your country, we will rely on an appropriate transfer mechanism (for example, the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses) where required.
10. Your rights (EEA/UK and similar laws)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not have accounts, the practical way to erase your poll answer is Withdraw in the App (this works while the same Keychain device UUID is available).
You may also contact support@faithcounts.app or your local supervisory authority (in the EEA, your lead authority; in the UK, the ICO).
We cannot fulfil a request that would require us to identify you beyond the anonymous device identifiers we already store.
11. Children
The App is intended for people 18 and over. Age ranges start at 18. We do not knowingly collect answers from children.
12. Changes
We will update this document in the App and at https://faithcounts.app/privacy when our practices change. Material changes about ads or new data types will be described before those changes are released.
